{"id":1488,"date":"2017-07-18T22:59:23","date_gmt":"2017-07-18T22:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/?p=1488"},"modified":"2017-07-18T22:59:23","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T22:59:23","slug":"automatic-snapshots-and-how-to-use-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/automatic-snapshots-and-how-to-use-them\/","title":{"rendered":"Automatic Snapshots and How to Use Them."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may not have noticed this but when you install a PhonePad Server Update, it automatically takes a &#8220;snapshot&#8221; of your existing PhonePad installation on your Server or Host PC.<\/p>\n<p>A snapshot contains all of your PhonePad program files and your database <em>as it was before the update<\/em>, allowing you to quickly revert to the pre-update state.<\/p>\n<p>This feature is designed to get you back up and running again quickly in the event something goes wrong with the update.<\/p>\n<p>Although this doesn&#8217;t happen very often there have been cases where files have not updated correctly and left PhonePad in a state where it couldn&#8217;t run, or it ran with errors.\u00c2\u00a0 If this happens to you then follow these steps:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.\u00c2\u00a0 Run the <strong>RestoreSnapshot<\/strong> program on your Server or Host PC by right-clicking on the application and selecting <em>Run as Administrator<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2.\u00c2\u00a0 Select the snapshot you want to restore from.\u00c2\u00a0 This would normally be the most recent one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3.\u00c2\u00a0 Click the <strong>Restore<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/RestoreSnapshot.png\"><img data-opt-id=1404584883  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1489\" src=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/RestoreSnapshot.png\" alt=\"PhonePad Restore Snapshot\" width=\"504\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:504\/h:325\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/RestoreSnapshot.png 504w, https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:193\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/RestoreSnapshot.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/a>4. style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If your workstations have already updated to the newer version of PhonePad, they will display a version error message when they start PhonePad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This is because you have restored your Server or Host PC to an earlier version of PhonePad 5 Server.\u00c2\u00a0 You can easily fix this by <em>clicking the link<\/em> in the message.\u00c2\u00a0 It will download the correct version of PhonePad 5 Workstation and install it on the workstation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">So remember, if you ever encounter issues with an update, you can quickly revert back to the previous version and get back up and running again.\u00c2\u00a0 This will reduce any downtime and give us a chance to investigate the issue
