height=\"142\" \/><\/a>We&#8217;ve had a few support emails recently about connection problems when using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cybercom-software.com\/phonepad\">PhonePad<\/a> in &#8220;Local Mode&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 These have been caused by mapping issues with the PhonePad data folder.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how it typically happens.\u00c2\u00a0 PhonePad is installed on a shared drive on the server.\u00c2\u00a0 When the connection setting is done, it is based on the mapping of the <em>user&#8217;s<\/em> (ie. the person doing the installation) network drive.\u00c2\u00a0 The problem is, other users may have different drive mappings.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the person installing PhonePad has their network folder mapped as <em>G:<\/em>, with their PhonePad data folder set to <em>G:\\PhonePad\\Data<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But other users may have the same folder mapped as <em>J:\\PhonePad\\Data<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is will cause problems when the other users try to connect to the PhonePad database.\u00c2\u00a0 The usual error message will be:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/tablemissing.png\"><img data-opt-id=1537993481  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-248\" title=\"PhonePad Error\" src=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:97\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/tablemissing.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>The error message may look a little complicated but it simply means that PhonePad is unable to locate the PhonePad database in the specified location.<\/p>\n<p>This can be easily solved by using a<em> UNC<\/em> (<em>Uniform Naming Convention<\/em> or <em>Universal Naming Convention<\/em>) path.\u00c2\u00a0 Run <strong>DBConnect <\/strong>(it&#8217;s in your PhonePad folder) and click the <strong>UNC <\/strong>button to change the mapped path into a UNC path.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/uncpath.png\"><img data-opt-id=2064151925  data-opt-src=\"https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:300\/h:244\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/uncpath.png\"  decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-251\" title=\"PhonePad database UNC path\" https:\/\/mld50qmdoq2m.i.optimole.com\/w:366\/h:298\/q:mauto\/ig:avif\/https:\/\/cybercom-software.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/uncpath.png 366w\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Occasionally clicking the <em>UNC <\/em>button doesn&#8217;t convert the path to a UNC path.\u00c2\u00a0 If for some reason it doesn&#8217;t work for you, you will need to manually remove the drive letter and add the name of your server.\u00c2\u00a0 The format is <em>\\\\&lt;servername&gt;\\&lt;phonepad data folder&gt;<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Using our previous example, the path would change from <em>G:\\PhonePad\\Data<\/em> to <em>\\\\MyServer\\PhonePad\\Data<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once this has been done you should find that, no matter what drive mapping each user has, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cybercom-software.com\/phonepad\">PhonePad<\/a> will be able to successfully connect.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve had a few support emails
