Some Things You Should Know About Server Updates.

When we release a new version of PhonePad, it’s released in the form of a server update.  This means you install the update on your Server or Host PC, and not on your workstation.

When workstations connect to the Server after a server update, the Server will automatically update them with the latest version.  This means you don’t have to walk around to each computer and update it manually.

Do I Need to Install the Latest Server Update?

Only if you are after new features in the update or are affected by any bugs that log phone callshave been fixed.  If you are perfectly happy with your currently install version and are not affected by bugs fixed in subsequent releases and don’t want the new features, then there is no need to update unless you want a newer version.

Do I Have to Install Every Update Between the Version I Have and the Latest Version?

No.  If you are on say Version 5.40.0 and want to update to Version 5.57.0, there will have been quite a few releases between these two versions.

You don’t need to install all of these releases to get to the version you want.  You only need to install the version you want to update to, eg. Version 5.57.0.

This is because PhonePad has a smart update system that checks the version you have installed and works out all the required changes needed to bring it up to the version you are installing.  To look at it another way, each version contains all of the updates of previous versions.

So if you wanted to update from Version 5.40.0 to Version 5.57.0, for example, you would just install the server update for Version 5.57.0.  There is no need to install the releases between those versions.

Doesn’t that make updates so much simpler. 🙂

PhonePad Version 5.57.1 Has Been Released.

We are pleased to announce the release of PhonePad Version 5.57.1.

log phone callsThe Refresh button will connect to the update plan system and retrieve your current update plan details, and store them in your PhonePad database.  So what it does is refresh the Update Plan information in your PhonePad database to ensure it’s up to date.

Get Your PhonePad 5 Update Plan Extended by 2 Years at No Cost.

We live in strange times.  Well they were strange before but they’re even stranger now.

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the whole world, and with many of us still living under restrictions or in lockdown, we wanted to make a small contribution to make things just a little bit easier for our wonderful customers who may be finding it difficult on the business side of things.

If you have an active update plan on June 15, 2020, we will extend your update plan by another 24 months (2 years) at no cost to you!

What?  Are you serious?  2 whole years?  Yep.  I kid you not.

So, for example, if you have 6 months left on your Update Plan on June 15, you will then have 30 months left on your Update Plan.

Remember, you need to have an active update plan on June 15.  June 16 and later is too late!  No exceptions, sorry.

If you don’t have an active plan, now might be a good time to renew it. That will give you 3 years for the price of 1 year.

Now you may asking “Well how do I check if I have a current Update Plan or not?”.  Glad you asked.

Step 1:  Select the Help tab in PhonePad.

Step 2:  Click the Update Plan button.

Step 3:  The status of your Update Plan will be displayed.

If you don’t have a current Update Plan, you can renew it by clicking the Renew button.

This is a one-time offer so please make sure you don’t miss out!

New Version of MessageSender Check (6.2.0).

MessageSender Check Version 6.2.0 has just been released.

This version includes the following changes:

  • ADDED: It checks the MessageSender Queue for messages that are waiting to be sent and gives you a breakdown of the number of messages.  If the Warning symbol appears next to any of these counts it means that you have messages waiting to be sent but there is something preventing that (whatever that is will be shown elsewhere in the checks it performs as an error or warning).
  • ADDED: When it checks the latest MessageSender log file for errors, it grabs those error messages and displays them.  This means you don’t have to open Log Viewer and got look for them yourself.
  • FIXED: Main window resizes correctly.

log phone messagesIf you’re not sure what MessageSender Check is all about, please check out this previous article on it.

Connecting to the PhonePad 5 Server.

One of the great things about PhonePad is that you don’t need to configure the workstation software to connect to the PhonePad Server.  It does it all automatically using Server Auto-Discovery.

When you start PhonePad, your PhonePad workstation software will send out a message asking if there are any PhonePad servers on the network.  The server will respond with its connection details, which the workstation will use to establish a connection.

Here’s an example of that happening.

log phone messagesIf you find that PhonePad is unable to locate a server, or if you get an error message similar to this then something may be blocking the UDP protocol on your Server, workstation, or network.

log phone messagesIf this happens to you, check your anti-virus software on your Server and Workstations.  Although PhonePad automatically creates the necessary firewall rules for the Windows Firewall, anti-virus software often ignores these settings.  You may need to allow the PhonePad Workstation and Server software to access UDP and/or port 15350.  Your router may also be blocking the UDP protocol or port 15350.

If you are unable to resolve this, there are a couple of other options you can use to connect.

Disable Auto-Discovery

Open Control Center on the Server or Host PC to check the Server IP Address.

log phone messageMake a note of the IP Address.  Tip: If you double-click on the IP Address it will be copied to the Windows clipboard.

On your workstation, open Workstation Config.

log phone messagesSelect Disable Auto-Discovery of Server and enter the IP Address under Server IP Address, and then click Save.

When you start PhonePad, it will show that the IP Address is overridden.

log phone messagesServer Access Key

Open Control Center on the Server or Host PC, select PhonePad Server, and click the Settings button.

log phone messagesWhen the Server Settings screen is displayed, you will need to create a Server Access Key.

log phone messagesClick the button with the green padlock to create the Server Access Key.

log phone messagesCopy the Server Access Key by clicking the Copy button (next to the button with the green padlock).

The Server Access Key needs to be registered.  Click the Register button.

log phone messagesOn your workstation, open Workstation Config.  Select Use Server Access Key and enter the Server Access Key that you created, then click Save.

log phone messagesWhen you start PhonePad, it will retrieve the Server IP Address using the Server Access Key.

log phone messagesPlease note: This method uses the Internet to retrieve the IP Address from our web server.  The Server Access Key will only work on your network and is useless outside of your network, which means it can’t be used to access PhonePad from a workstation outside of your network (unless you are using a VPN).
