Manage your phone messages quickly and easily with PhonePad!

Automatic Snapshots and How to Use Them.

You may not have noticed this but when you install a PhonePad Server Update, it automatically takes a “snapshot” of your existing PhonePad installation on your Server or Host PC.

A snapshot contains all of your PhonePad program files and your database as it was before the update, allowing you to quickly revert to the pre-update state.

This feature is designed to get you back up and running again quickly in the event something goes wrong with the update.

Although this doesn’t happen very often there have been cases where files have not updated correctly and left PhonePad in a state where it couldn’t run, or it ran with errors.  If this happens to you then follow these steps:

1.  Run the RestoreSnapshot program on your Server or Host PC by right-clicking on the application and selecting Run as Administrator.

2.  Select the snapshot you want to restore from.  This would normally be the most recent one.

3.  Click the Restore button.

PhonePad Restore Snapshot4. When prompted to continue, click Yes.

5.  Your files will be restored from the snapshot.

6.  After a couple of minutes your Server or Host PC should be back to the way it was.

7.  Report the issue with the update to support@cybercom-software.com so that we can investigate and fix it.

If your workstations have already updated to the newer version of PhonePad, they will display a version error message when they start PhonePad.

This is because you have restored your Server or Host PC to an earlier version of PhonePad 5 Server.  You can easily fix this by clicking the link in the message.  It will download the correct version of PhonePad 5 Workstation and install it on the workstation.

So remember, if you ever encounter issues with an update, you can quickly revert back to the previous version and get back up and running again.  This will reduce any downtime and give us a chance to investigate the issue for you.

PhonePad Version 5.22.3 Has Been Released.

We are pleased to announce the release of PhonePad 5.22.3 Server Update, which is available for immediate download.  This is a maintenance release that fixes an important issue.

Changes in This Release:

  • CHANGED – Modified temp folder used by PhonePad, to resolve issues some users were experiencing after database engine update.

Please note: Server Updates must be installed on your Server or Host PC, not your workstation (unless your workstation is also the Host PC) – they cannot be installed directly on your workstations.  Make sure all users are logged out of PhonePad as the PhonePad Server will be stopped during the update and then restarted once it has completed.  Workstations will be automatically updated when PhonePad 5 Workstation is started on each workstation.

Important: When downloading and installing an update from your My PhonePad account, make sure it’s actually the update and not the server setup program.  The update will update your database whereas the setup program will overwrite it with a blank database.

You can download the update from your My PhonePad account or by using the Application Update option on the System Admin menu in PhonePad 5.

These updates are available for both fully licensed users and trial users.

PhonePad Version 5.21.0 Has Been Released.

We are pleased to announce the release of PhonePad 5.21.0 Server Update, which is available for immediate download.

Automatic Updates

The Automatic Server Update system has been completely rewritten to improve the update process.  A new, separate, Windows service has been created to handle automatic updating of your server whenever a new version is released.  You still have the choice to update manually or automatically.

Control Center

A new Control Center enables you to manage all of your PhonePad 5 Windows services from one place.

New PhonePad 5 Control Center

The Home or overview screen shows the status of all services at-a-glance.  In the screenshot, green shows that the PhonePad 5 Server service is running, red shows that the Auto Update service is installed but not running, and gray shows that the MessageSender service is not installed.

To manage a service, just select it from the list on the left, and then click the appropriate button.

Log Viewer

PhonePad keeps detailed logs of system processes.  These can be important for diagnosing and resolving any issues that you may experience.  As each PhonePad program maintains its own log it can be a little awkward individually accessing each one.

The new Log Viewer gives you a central point for accessing all of these logs.  It works on both your Server or Host PC, and workstations.

Logs are grouped by their location, ie. Server Logs and Workstation Logs.  Of course you can’t view server logs on a workstation because they are located on the server.

PhonePad 5 Log Viewer

If you get an error while using PhonePad but can’t remember what the error message said so you can report it to Cybercom Software Support, do not despair as the error message is highly likely in the log files.

Even better is the built-in Support feature.  Log Viewer can collect all of your logs and email them to Cybercom Software Support.

By the way, the logs don’t contain any sensitive data from your database.

Other Changes

  • ADDED – Timeout settings to WorkstationConfig.
  • FIXED – Error when sending a message with a single quote ( ‘ ) in the Subject.
  • FIXED – Error when re-sending a message.
  • Various minor fixes and improvements.

PhonePad Version 5.20.0 Has Been Released.

We are pleased to announce the release of PhonePad 5.20.0 Server Update, which is available for immediate download.

When Dynamic Refresh was introduced to PhonePad 5 several versions ago it meant that messages could be delivered to your Inbox almost instantly.  Instead of using a pull method of checking for new messages, Dynamic Refresh pushed new message notifications to each workstation.

Unfortunately on some networks Dynamic Refresh didn’t work because it was being blocked (evident by socket error # 10060 in the log files).  Despite our best efforts we were unable to find out exactly what was blocking the Windows network protocols that Dynamic Refresh used.

So we have completely replaced the technology we were using for Dynamic Refresh and rewritten it from scratch.  The technology and protocols now used for Dynamic Refresh don’t have the same blocking issues.  The result should be better performance and faster message delivery times.

Changes and Fixes

  • IMPROVED – Dynamic Refresh has been rewritten using a different network techology and protocols.
  • Various minor fixes and improvements.
